Rob Roy is designated "A Romantic Comic Opera in Three Acts" by composer Reginald De Koven and lyricist Harry B. Smith. It premiered in Detroit on 1 October 1894 and opened in New York on 29 October 1894, at the Herald Square Theatre where it ran for 235 performances.
