No. 23 - Song - Hilda and Chorus - "The Fishes in the Sea."

MIDI File

Hilda: When a little lady first comes out,
She'll find no end of men about,
Dark and fair ones, small and tall ones,
Ev'ry sort of shape and size.
She is sure to lose her heart some day,
Supposing he should run away,
She need not flurry, grieve or worry,
If she'll only recognize:
There are lots of other little fishes,
Swimming in the deep blue sea,
Sharks and flounders,
Some are thousand pounders,
Each would be delighted,
Men: Just to be invited.
Hilda: When I think of all the little fishes,
Swimming in the deep blue sea,
They're one too many,
I shan't ask any,
The fish can come and fish for me.
There are lots of other little fishes,
Swimming in the deep blue sea,
Sharks and flounders,
Some are thousand pounders,
Each would be delighted,
Men: Just to be invited.
Hilda: When I think of all the little fishes,
Swimming in the deep blue sea,
They're one too many,
I shan't ask any,
The fish can come and fish for me.

Hilda: It is better far to hesitate,
Than find you've been deceived too late;
So quite gently, incident'lly,
Ask him why he loves you so.
If he cannot answer right away,
Of course there's nothing more to say,
No use waiting, go on baiting,
People on the bank should know;
There are lots of other little fishes,
Swimming in the deep blue sea,
Sharks and flounders,
Gentlemen and bounders,
Each would be delighted,
Men: Just to be invited.
Hilda: When I think of all the little fishes,
Swimming in the deep blue sea,
I've made my mind up,
My line I'll wind up,
The fish can come and fish for me.
There are lots of other little fishes,
Swimming in the deep blue sea,
Sharks and flounders,
Gentlemen and bounders,
Each would be delighted,
Men: Just to be invited.
Hilda: When I think of all the little fishes,
Swimming in the deep blue sea,
I've made my mind up,
My line I'll wind up,
The fish can come and fish for me.

Hilda: Compliments are such a standing dish,
Of course she knows the way to "fish,"
When a daughter's in low water,
She will take the best she can.
But if she should be a splendid match,
She'll try to get the "Season's catch,"
If her line is just to fine,
It's ten to one she'll lose her man.
There are lots of other little fishes,
Swimming in the deep blue sea,
Eels and cod-fish,
Some are rather odd fish,
Each would be delighted,
Men: Just to be invited.
Hilda: When I think of all the little fishes,
Swimming in the deep blue sea,
It's too much trouble
To watch each bubble,
The fish can come and fish for me.
There are lots of other little fishes,
Swimming in the deep blue sea,
Eels and cod-fish,
Some are rather odd fish,
Each would be delighted,
Men: Just to be invited.
Hilda: When I think of all the little fishes,
Swimming in the deep blue sea,
It's too much trouble
To watch each bubble,
The fish can come and fish for me.
