Screwing up her courage Katie went and called, Nurse brought down the babies, gracious! how they squalled! While the mother stood, Hoping Katie would Murmur something flattering about them. Kate was careless, very, very careless, And she must have filled them with dismay, She took one peep, Then said, "Which d'you mean to keep?" It was such a silly thing to say. |

| Elphin: | Katie to the theatre very seldom went, But to see the nice new Gaiety she meant, Somehow missed her way On a foggy day, Got inside some theatre, but the wrong one. "Hamlet" was the piece that evening being played; Katie never knew the error she had made, Really fancied she Was at the Gaietee, And the plot she thought was quite a strong one. Kate was careless, very, very careless, And she went and ask'd a friend next day, "The mournful Dane I suppose was Teddy Payne?" It was such a silly thing to say. |
