No. 10 - Song - Joe and Sam - "Poaching."
Joe & Sam: | Poaching is a dangerous career, That's what makes it fascinate you, Keepers may be often very near, Dogs are apt to irritate you. Night time is the very best of all, Times for coursing and a-snaring But a number one shot makes a hole in quite a lot, So be careful what you are a-wearing. When you start to go a-poaching And there's someone stealthily approaching, Underneath the trees on hands and knees You must lie down upon the ground, Though a rabbit you may be admiring, You must not begin to think of firing Like a dummy on your poor damp tummy... Sh! (spoken) Still not a word, not a sound. |
Pheasants are amusing little things, But not ready till the season, Once they start to use their little wings Poachers can't see any reason Why they shouldn't be their very own Grouse, hare, plover, duck, or partridge, For it's mighty fine sport if the larder's rather short And there's no real need to use a cartridge. |
