Joanne Moore (1961-63)
[Born Wigan, Lancashire]
Joanne Moore was known as Barbara Moore when she joined the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company chorus in September 1961, following three years of evening school at the Royal Academy of Music in Manchester. In March, May, and June 1962, by then using the name Joanne, she appeared from time to time for Joyce Wright as Iolanthe in Iolanthe and Pitti-Sing in The Mikado.
Miss Wright left the D'Oyly Carte in June 1962 and when the new season began in August Joanne Moore was assigned the parts of Hebe in H.M.S. Pinafore, Iolanthe, Pitti-Sing, and Vittoria in The Gondoliers. In January 1963 she added Edith in The Pirates of Penzance. Miss Moore left the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company in August 1963.
She returned to Gilbert & Sullivan for a spell in 1969, appearing that year with "Gilbert & Sullivan for All" as Pitti-Sing, and as Phoebe Meryll in The Yeomen of the Guard.
