Jessie Moore (1889-91)
[Born Brighton, Sussex 1865, died London 28 Nov 1910]
Soprano Jessie Moore toured with D'Oyly Carte Opera Company "B" from January 1889 to September 1891, appearing as Yum-Yum in The Mikado, Elsie Maynard in The Yeomen of the Guard, and Gianetta in The Gondoliers. She then transferred to the Savoy where she played Polly in the curtain raiser Captain Billy (November-December 1891), replacing her younger sister Decima who had left the D'Oyly Carte.
Jessie Moore herself left the Savoy shortly thereafter. She had married D'Oyly Carte comic baritone Cairns James in 1889. Between 1892 and 1905 she appeared in a variety of comedy and light opera parts at the Lyric (most notably as Theresa in Gilbert & Cellier's The Mountebanks, in which she succeeded Geraldine Ulmar, 1892), Royalty, Globe, Vaudeville, Gaiety, Criterion, and St. James's Theatres. She also had a tour of South Africa.
