Susan Maisey (1964-68)
Susan Maisey joined the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company as a soprano chorister in August 1964. She took her first named part (Fleta in Iolanthe) in August 1966, then in April 1967 took on an array of smaller parts:Isabel in The Pirates of Penzance, the Lady Ella in Patience, Celia in Iolanthe, Chloe in Princess Ida, Zorah in Ruddigore, and Kate in The Yeomen of the Guard:following the departure of Jennifer Marks. She also filled in that year on occasion for Anne Sessions as Giulia in The Gondoliers.
In January 1968, a new production of The Gondoliers was launched and Miss Maisey added Giulia to her regular duties. She played Isabel, Ella, Celia, Chloe, Zorah, Kate (Yeomen), and Giulia on a regular basis until July 1968 when she left the Company.
Susan Maisey may be seen as a chorister in the Company's 1966 film of The Mikado, and heard as Isabel on its 1968 recording of The Pirates of Penzance. She has recently appeared with the Royal Opera, Covent Garden.
