Edwin Alexander Franks was in the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company chorus from July 1929 to March 1930. Following his departure he made several London appearances: in the musical fantasy Alice in Wonderland (Savoy, 1930-31), The Land of Smiles (Drury Lane, 1931), The Tales of Hoffmann (Sadler's Wells and Old Vic, 1931-32), the musical burlesque Jolly Roger (Savoy and Lyceum, 1933), the musical romance Command Performance (Saville, 1933), the musical play The Flying Trapeze (Alhambra, 1935), and the revue Follow the Sun (Adelphi, 1936).
