Joseph Fay (1887)

From February to May 1887, Joseph C. Fay appeared with the D'Oyly Carte organization in America, touring the Northeastern United States first as Florian in Princess Ida, then as Old Adam Goodheart with Carte's Second American Ruddygore Company, beginning in March. Both productions were under the management of John Stetson.

Fay had earlier performed in New York and Boston from November 1886 to February 1887 in Stetson (non-D'Oyly Carte) productions of Princess Ida (as Arac) and Patience (as Major Murgatroyd). The casts for these productions included Geraldine Ulmar and Courtice Pounds on loan from D'Oyly Carte.

Joseph Fay continued to appear in comic opera and musicals throughout the 1890s. He appeared with the J. C. Duff Comic Opera Company as Pish-Tush in The Mikado, Samuel in The Pirates of Penzance, Major Murgatroyd in Patience, and the Earl of Mountararat in Iolanthe in New York in 1890 and 1891. His last role in New York was Professor Tamarind in the musical A Runaway Girl (Daly's, April -June 1900). He later appeared in motion pictures.
