THE D'OYLY CARTE OPERA COMPANY
Jerome Cammeyer (1887)
[Born New York, New York c.1865, died Perth Amboy, New Jersey]
Perhaps inspired by his actor stepfather George Gaston, Master Jerry ( born Jeremiah) Cammeyer appeared as Captain Corcoran in H.M.S. Pinafore with a New York Juvenile Opera Company at Wood's Broadway Theatre in October 1879.
Years later, as Jerome Cammeyer, he served with D'Oyly Carte's Second American Ruddygore Company as one of the ancestors (Sir Conrad Murgatroyd) on tour in New England, March-May 1887. He had earlier appeared in New York as Mr. Bunthorne's Solicitor in a pirate production of Patience with the Blanche Corelli Opera Company (Cosmopolitan Theatre, July 1884).
Jerome Cammeyer would appear intermittently in theatre for several years, including in a supporting role in Little Lord Fauntleroy at the Bedford Avenue Theatre, Brooklyn, in February 1892.
