Haddon Hall - Did Dorothy Vernon Elope?
The Dorothy Vernon elopement story first came to public attention with the publication in 1822 of The King of the Peak by Allan Cunningham. For the rest of the century and into the early part of the next, storytellers and novelist and poets repeated, embellished and expanded the tale.
