To MIDI File Pilgrimage

(6.6.8.6.4.7.)

Composed for “Church Hymns with Tunes”, S.P.C.K., 1874.

1 From Egypt's bondage come,
  2 To Canaan's sacred bound
    Where death and darkness reign,
We haste with songs of joy,
We seek our new, our better home,
Where peace and liberty are found,
Where we our rest shall gain.       And sweets that never cloy.
      Alleluia!         Alleluia!
We are travelling home to heaven!     We are travelling home to heaven!

3 There sin and sorrow cease,   4 There in celestial strains
    And all the strife is o'er;       The ransomed captives sing;
There we shall dwell in endless peace,     There love in every bosom reigns,
And never hunger more.       For God Himself is King.
      Alleluia!         Allelulia!
We are travelling home to heaven!     We are travelling home to heaven !

5 How Sweet the prospect is!
    It cheers the pilgrim's breast,
  As journeying through the wilderness,
    We seek the promised rest!
      Alleluia!
We are travelling home to heaven! Amen.

Thomas Kelly, 1769 - 1854.
