1 I’ve found a Friend; oh, such a Friend!   2 I’ve found a Friend; oh, such a Friend!
    He loved me ere I knew Him!       He bled, He died to save me;
  He drew me with the cords of love,     And not alone the gift of life,
    And thus He bound me to Him:       But His own self He gave me.
  And round my heart still closely twine     Nought that I have my own I call,
    Those ties which nought can sever;       I hold it for the Giver:
  For I am His, and He is mine,     My heart, my strength, my life, my all,
    For ever and for ever.       Are His and His for ever.

3 I’ve found a Friend; oh, such a Friend!   4 I’ve found a Friend; oh, such a Friend!
    All power to Him is given,       So kind and true and tender,
  To guard me on my onward course     So wise a Counsellor and Guide,
    And bring me safe to heaven.       So mighty a Defender.
  Eternal glories gleam afar,     From Him, Who loves me now so well,
    To nerve my faint endeavour;       What power my soul can sever?
  So now to watch, to work, to war,     Shall life or death? or earth or hell?
    And then to rest for ever.       No! I am His for ever!

        James Grindlay Small, 1817 - 88.
