DINGWALL GALA

[Lt. Col. Olaf MacLeod, one of our most northerly readers may be best remembered by “older” readers for his article on Do it yourself Pinafore scenery in the Sept.1963 issue of THE SAVOYARD. He writes to tell me of a rather interesting programme which he produced for his society's "21st". (Dingwall is in Rosshire, Scotland).] As it proved difficult to decide on any one opera I suggested doing bits out of the nine which we had done (Ruddigore, Pinafore, Mikado, Yeomen, Pirates, Iolanthe, Ida, Patience and Gondoliers). We had most of the costumes an our wardrobe - we always made our own - but the problem was to arrange the selection of items so as to give time for people to change! The principal parts were spread among 28 people (who sang in the chorus in their spare time). There were 50 in the cast overall. The show was not a concert, each item being an extract from an opera with dialogue, dances, etc.
