EDITORIAL
Recently I received a letter from a correspondent who complained that my reviews (and those of other reviewers which I print in these pages) were malicious, cruel and destructive. While I deny these charges emphatically, I should be pleased to have readers' views on the matter. My opinion is that a crit should be honest. I do not claim to be always right in my views, but I do claim that I am honest ? and I submit that if one is not to be honest, there is no point in writing a crit at all. I hope I will be forgiven if I also quote the opinion of John Craig Toy in the defunct (alas) journal Jack Point Press, who said of me, in commenting on my crits:? "He loves G & S enough to review it honestly."
