No. 9 - Duet - Mary and Timothy - "Country Cousins"
Mary: | When the season's on the wane, Up come country cousins By the cheap excursion train, Twos and threes and dozens! |
Timothy: | Up for a couple of days and nights, Seeing the regular London sights, Tower, Museum and Monument, Where not a Londoner ever went! |
Both: | When country cousins come up to Town, About an hour they have to stand Before they dare to cross the Strand! Motor cabs are trying to run them down, When country cousins come up to Town! |
Timothy: | All the day they stroll and stare, Then in crowds they rally, Flocking into Leicester Square For the latest ballet! |
Mary: | Girls will exclaim at the sights one sees, "Look at the hussy who shows her knees!" |
Timothy: | Boys will reply: "Is it her you mean? Why that's the Premier Ballerine!" |
Both: | When country cousins come up to Town, They think the ballet most sublime, It beats the local pantomime. Can't you see a lot for your half a crown When country cousins come up to Town! |
