No. 7 - Song - Downham - "I haven't a moment to spare."
Downham: | I'm sure I shall always remember the day When I took up this Wargrave affair. For ever since then I have been on the go, I have look'd for him high and I've look'd for him low, I have travell'd all over the world to and fro, And I've not had a moment to spare, For I dare not declare That the heir isn't there! And if people should murmur "Oh! do take a chair!" I can never sit down for they don't seem aware I havn't a moment to spare, I havn't a moment to spare. All day I must hustle, And keep on the bustle, I havn't a moment to spare! A number of wrinkles I've certainly got, And I've lost a good deal of my hair, But when the occasion is really so grave, Like an average mortal I cannot behave, So I hardly allow myself time for a shave For I havn't a moment to spare. I don't care what I wear Though I dare say you stare. For how can I be dapper and quite debonair When all over the place in a hurry I tear, With never a moment to spare, With never a moment to spare. And if I'm kept waiting It's so irritating, I havn't a moment to spare! |
