No. 3 - Duet - Jim and Lisa - "Celebrities."

MIDI File

Jim: Oh, the public don't appreciate
them dogs one little bit,
And the reason why has just occur'd to me.
They're intelligent and clever,
as I'm sure you will admit,
But they're none of them celebrities you see.
Liza: Now that poodle can turn somersaults
and jump across a stick,
But in spite of that she ain't got any name.
How the audience would scramble,
say, if Mrs. Patrick Campbell
Were to tell 'em, she would try to do the same.
Both: Oh! times are bad, excepting for "Stars"
Who have won success
With interviews and plenty of "pars"
In the daily press.
The dogs don't seem to care for applause,
And the truth I'll own;
They don't attract the public because
They are not well-known!

Liza: You should watch the small one balance
lumps of sugar on his nose,
But the people don't seem eager to applaud,
Tho' the trick would bring the house down
ev'ry evening, I suppose,
If perform'd by Beerbohm Tree or Cyril Maude.
Jim: Then the two of them can see-saw
without even falling off,
But the patron of the drama stops away.
He would come all right if he saw
Hayden Coffin have a see-saw
On a plank with Evie Green or Edna May.
Both: Oh! times are bad, excepting for "Stars"
Who have won success
With interviews and plenty of "pars"
In the daily press.
The dogs don't seem to care for applause,
And the truth I'll own;
They don't attract the public because
They are not well-known!
