No. 1 - Opening Chorus

MIDI File

Chorus: After a capital day,
After some very good sport,
Feeling a bit stiff we admit,
Here for a while we resort,
Here as we wended our way,
Someone suggested the plan,
We should remain here to obtain
Something that's quite so simple and light.
Just before dinner,
Just before dinner, refreshing,
refreshing the inner, inner man!
Innkeeper: I bid you welcome one and all,
Although you're only passing through,
For drink or food whene'er you call,
I'll try and do my best for you,
And if by chance when you have fared,
To stay the night you should incline,
The beds can very soon be aired
By all these chambermaids of mine.
Chambermaids: Busy little, bright little maidens we,
Always with a lot to do,
With brooms and cans, or warming pans,
We'll readily attend to you.
Really it is quite a treat to see
How we bustle to and fro,
Very, very active,
Awfully attractive,
Ever on the go, go, go!
Very, very active,
Awfully attractive,
Ever on the go, go, go!
Ladies: We are the County Belles, we are,
Awfully languid swells we are!
Crème de la crème and quite tip-top,
Commonplace people spurning,
Violent exercise, you know,
Thoroughly we despise, and so
We go to the meet, but there we stop,
And welcome you when returning!
Chorus: Here's a toast to the Fallowfield Hunt,
And the jolly good fellows who rode in front!
Men: Now ev'ryone had a rattling run,
From the time the fox was found.
We'd lots of scent, so away we went,
Over rather roughish ground.
We crossed a ditch and some fences which
In gallant style we took,
Ladies: Tally ho...
Men: Then by and by, with the hounds full cry,
We were bothered by a brook.
'Twas "Easy go!" for a mile or so,
But our breathing time was brief.
We headed straight for a five-barred gate
Where a number came to grief.
Along the lane, going might and main
Thro' some meadows, past a pond;
Ladies: Tally ho...
Men: Then up a hill, and we made the kill
In the clover field beyond.
All: Oh! yes, oh! yes, 'twas a rattling run,
For so says ev'ryone,
And more or less, we all confess,
We're sorry now it's done.
The old, the old familiar sound!
Yoicks! Forrard, gone away.
And welcome back to the famous pack
that has led us all today.
Yoicks! Tally-ho, Yoicks! Tally-ho,
Yoicks! Tally-ho, Yoicks! Tally-ho,
Yoicks! Tally-ho, Yoicks! Tally-ho,
Yoicks! Tally-ho, Yoicks! Tally-ho,
The old, the old familiar sound!
Yoicks! Forrard, gone away.
And welcome back to the famous pack
that has led us all today.
Tally-ho, Tally-ho, Tally-ho,
Tally-ho, Tally-ho!
Tally-ho, Tally-ho, Tally-ho,
Tally-ho, Tally-ho!
Tally-ho, Tally-ho!
