No. 4 - Duet - Sam and Peggy
Peggy: | What a lot you must have been about, If the tales you tell are true. |
Sam: | Tho' with lots of girls I'm seen about, Still not one comes up to you! Tell me now, don't you remember How we kissed that night in June! |
Peggy: | Me! why that was in September, And what's more, the afternoon! |
Both: | (Whistle) There I/you go! It can't have been the same girl! No! |
Sam: | You'd got on a scarlet blouse! |
Peggy: | That's so likely milking cows! |
Both: | Then it must have been another girl! Oh! |
Peggy: | You told me you loved no other, When you vowed that you'd be true! |
Sam: | I was nothing but a brother To the other girls I knew! |
Peggy: | Tho' I do not wish to scold you, Many sisters you've possess'd! |
Sam: | Still, the tale I always told you Was the same I told the rest. |
Both: | (Whistle) There I/you go! It can't have been the same tale! No! |
Sam: | I never would deceive you. |
Peggy: | I never would believe you. |
Sam: | No more did all the other girls! |
Both: | Oh! |
Peggy: | Surely you have not forgotten How you wrote and said you found That your bank account was rotten And I sent you up a pound! |
Sam: | You suggest you sent me money! Things I know were looking black, Still, it never came — that's funny! |
Peggy: | Yes it did, you paid me back! |
Both: | (Whistle) There I/you go! It can't have been the same boy! No! |
Peggy: | Why of course you know you did; |
Sam: | Me send back a golden quid! |
Both: | It must have been another chap! Oh! |
