No. 12 - Song - Victoria - "I'd like to bring my mother."
Victoria: | I'm rather fond of Someone Who's very fond of me; And that Someone's always writing And inviting me to tea! But I don't quite trust that Someone, I don't quite like his way; So next time that Someone asks me, I've made up my mind to say: I'd like to come to dinner, I'd like to come to supper, I'd like to come to luncheon and to tea; But I'd like to bring my mother, If you don't mind much, Oh, I'd like to bring my mother, Yes, I'd love to bring my mother, 'Cause my mother's twice as fond of food as me. |
Last week the Someone sent me A silver-plated watch — Of course he may be poor, I'm not quite sure he isn't Scotch! At times he's very gen'rous — At times the other way — So in future when he asks me What I'd like, I think I'll say: I'd like to have a bracelet, I'd like to have a necklace, I'd like to have tiaras, two or three, But I'd like to bring my mother, If you don't mind much, Oh, I'd like to bring my mother, Yes, I'd love to bring my mother, 'Cause my mother's twice as good a judge as me. |

When Someone gets romantic, He just becomes absurd; He sings all Tosti's songs, And says he longs to be a bird! Next time he writes and asks me To stroll our usual way, I'll answer him politely, But I'll be quite firm and say: I'd like to walk beside you, I'd like to hear you talking, And making love to me down by the sea; But I'd like to bring my mother, If you don't mind much, Oh, I'd like to bring my mother, Yes, I'd love to bring my mother, 'Cause my mother listens twice as well as me! |

That Someone's got old china, And furniture galore, And now and then he sends Me odds and ends — whatever for? I've just received my seventh Grandfather's Clock today! If I get any more of them, I'll telegraph and say: I'd like to have old china, I'd like to have fine pictures, And ev'rything as priceless as can be, But I wish you'd meet my mother, If you don't mind much, Oh, I wish you'd meet my mother, Oh, you please must meet my mother, 'Cause my mother wants the money more than me! |
